More than one hundred varieties of cherries are grown in the Jerte Valley.
Of all of them, only five native varieties have the seal of the Protected Designation of Origin “Cereza del Jerte” (P.D.O. “Cereza del Jerte”).
They are the Jerte Cherries and Jerte Cherries.

Jerte cherries and picotas with protected designation of origin are grown in a traditional way.

A natural crop

They are a natural crop, whose traditional harvesting and treatment multiply their properties, making them reach the market at the optimum moment for consumption. They are rich in flavonoids, trace elements and vitamins.

They grow between mountains, watered by crystal clear streams and are hand-picked in chestnut baskets. A centuries-old tradition in the Jerte Valley.

Jerte Valley Cherry

There is only one variety of cherry with peduncle certified by P.D.O. “Cereza del Jerte”: the Navalinda cherry. It is an early variety, which reaches the market between mid and late May.
Like the Jerte picotas, it is characterized by its sweetness, its heart-shaped and crunchy cherry.

They grow between mountains, watered by crystal clear streams and are hand-picked in chestnut baskets. A centuries-old tradition in the Jerte Valley.

Jerte Valley Picota Cherry

Jerte Valley Picota Cherry, in addition to being distinguished by their flavor, have as their most visible characteristic that they are marketed without stalk.
The peduncle remains attached to the cherry tree during harvesting.
Thus, the hole of union with the fruit is perfectly sealed.

There are four varieties of Jerte picotas: Ambrunés, Pico Colorado, Pico Negro and Pico Limón Negro.
